Mom got a bunch of new pics up last night, so you can go check out WordPress’s new slideshow feature! Pretty cool huh. Not sure how comments will work, everyone will just have to try it out and let us know what you think.

It’s been a long time, as always, and there are probably a bunch of things to put up, but in the meantime the crazy girl has gotten even crazier, and added somersaults to her list of acrobatics (which also includes multiple attempts at head first dives over the back of the couch, one of which was successful…and of course Sophia thought it was hilarious). She hasn’t quite gotten her sense of personal safety yet, much to Mom’s chagrin.

Aahh, young love! Sophia and Mom just got back from a fabulous couple of days with McKenzie, Gunner, and Emmy. Gunner and Sophia have really taken to each other in their last couple visits. They are both little monkeys and got good chuckles out of watching each other climb all over the furniture. But cutest of all was their official first dance! Of course Sophia’s dancing is well known amongst her fans, but apparently Gunner knows how to shake it too. The two of them together was like a one-year old Fred and Ginger!

Our Little Nature Girl

Ever since Sophia learned to walk, she LOVES playing outside. Even more now that she can run! One of the joys of living in North Carolina are the mild winters and up until about a week ago Sophia and Mommy had really been taking advantage of the great weather. We can pass a good hour or two at the park before naptime…easy. Especially when Sophia’s good friend Billy is there. There is nothing Sophia loves more than chasing Billy, who’s still a bit faster than her, all over the park, except maybe running up and down the big hill. Snowed In!

The Shields are officially snowed in. We got about 6in of snow last night and this morning and although that may not sound like much to our fellow midwesterners, in the South it’s a crippling amount. We’ve spent most of the day playing inside in our pajamas, but we did go out for a few minutes before bedtime last night and again after breakfast this morning. Sophia thinks the snow is pretty cool…until she falls in it. Then it’s not so fun. Pretty much we spend more time getting into the snowsuit than actually playing outside. But she looks so dang cute all dressed up to play that we really don’t care! :)

Sophia the Soccer Player

In Dad’s opinion, the best present Sophia got for Christmas was her first soccer ball! She started kicking it soon after Christmas, but now she is really starting to get the hang of it (aside from a few handballs…). It also gives her a good opportunity to practice her new favorite talent: running. It is not pretty, but she’s getting the hang of moving faster than a walk, often with her arms either straight out in front (the Frankenstein run, often used when chasing her boyfriend Billy who is faster than her) or else arms back behind her (the perpetually-crossing-an-imaginary-finish-line run). You’ll also see this new thing Sophia does where she backs away from the soccer ball, then runs toward it just like a real soccer player!! But then she gets up next to it and decides not to kick it after all… We haven’t figured that one out yet. The last bit of the video shows another new quirk. Sophia loves her music so much these days that as soon as a song ends, she often drops what she’s doing to sign ‘more’ because she is too impatient to wait the 5 seconds it takes for the next song to come on. She’s definitely beginning to develop her bossy side…no telling where she gets it from…

Our Little Monkey

Mommy and Daddy were in the kitchen working on dinner, when they noticed there wasn’t any babbling coming from a certain someone. This is never a good sign. Mommy walked into the living room and was greeted by what you see in the picture. If you’ll notice the key placement of the dollhouse, our little monkey used it as a stepstool and climbed on up. You can see she was rather proud of her accomplishment and although Mommy and Daddy don’t necessarily want to encourage such behavior, they thought it was pretty impressive, as well!

A Double Video Apology

Dad has been so busy! He promises he hasn’t forgotten about all the fans out there, but life is just crazy as you all know I’m sure. But it’s not a good excuse to have kept these two videos from being seen. Remember the ‘Dancing or Karate’ post from many months ago? Well I think we have the answer. This first video shows off Sophia’s first true love, DANCING. This girl is a dancing fool, who makes up new moves about once a week with no help from Mom or Dad. Enjoy!! The second movie is a compilation of scenes from her birthday….(yikes! That was almost two months ago….Dad’s gonna get coal in his stocking.).
